Step back in time to over 2,000 years ago and experience life as it was in Iron Age Britain!
In this fully immersive KS2 workshop, pupils dress as Celtic tribes and are shown what life was like in the Iron Age by a tribe member. Together, they explore how people built their homes, protected their tribe, crafted essential items, and worked the land—discovering what daily life was really like for Celts at that time.
Inside our replica roundhouse, pupils learn how hillforts were constructed, how they were used for defence, and how roundhouses were built using natural materials. Working as members of the tribe, pupils complete a series of hands-on tasks and challenges which may include:
- Grinding grain to prepare food for the community
- Weaving cloth on a loom to help create clothing
- Handling real slingstones and discovering how they were used in warfare and defence
- Examining genuine and replica Iron Age artefacts, identifying materials and understanding their uses
- Trading with a Celtic villager to explore the value of resources, skills, and goods
- Investigating real artefacts in the museum
Through active discovery, teamwork, and historical enquiry, pupils build a vivid picture of Iron Age society—from agriculture and craftsmanship to community life, trade, and defence.
