Travel back in time to explore what life was like in WW2.
Become different volunteers on the Home Front and understand more about what life was like through historical, craft and maths activities.
Younger siblings can take part too by helping out with the war effort by helping to pack an evacuee bag, digging for victory and sorting scraps to recycle!
Learners will meet a member of the Home Guard and a local housewife and learn about shopping for rationed goods, dig for victory, find out about limited food supplies, prepare a family for taking shelter during an air raid, trade goods and discover the importance of making do and mending!
On completion of your efforts on the Home Front, collect a special badge to take home.
Learning Outcomes:
| To be able to understand how ordinary life and people in Britain were affected by the Second World War through learning about their experiences on the Home Front through costumed interpretation, artefacts and activities |
| To experience what aspects of life were like on the Home Front during the Second World War, including: air raids, gas masks, rationing, evacuees, Anderson shelters, the blackout, aircraft identification and the role of the Home Guard |
Things to know prior to booking:
* All children must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them at all times including during facilitated workshops
* In the event of an emergency, you are responsible for the children in your group
* We require at least one adult for every 3 children who will receive a complimentary adult ticket
* You are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of your children at all times
* If you are looking to book younger/ older siblings into the sessions, please be aware that the content may not be pitched at their current learning level.
* Food and drinks are not permitted anywhere on the Museum floor
* Mobile phones and photography are strictly prohibited within the session due to safeguarding
* Our facilitators reserve the right to ask participants to leave if their behaviour is deemed unsafe or inappropriate for the setting
* We advise that participants take a comfort break before the session begins as children can not be left unsupervised while their accompanying adult takes one child to the toilet.
